In a Moment - Issue 18
I've been experimenting with space lately.
I'm not talking stars and planets and moons, although that sounds pretty awesome.
I'm talking about space in my awareness.
Finding some spaciousness in my body when tensions arise.
Finding spaciousness in my mind when I find myself getting caught up in a train of thoughts.
Finding spaciousness in my heart when intense or powerful emotions hijack my awareness.
Through this practice of experimenting with space, I've found a balance emerges within my awareness.
For example, when I find my thoughts racing a mile a minute,
taking me down a winding road
of forecasting
a future filled with worries
I pause.
I take a step back.
I allow those thoughts to flow.
And I get off of that train.
I let there be some space around the thoughts rather than be controlled, dictated, pushed by them.
With that space, I find that I can respond, rather than react. I get less tangled, less caught up in the thoughts, feelings, emotions. I find that I can make choices and actions from a more peaceful and grounded place.
To help you tap into that space, I have created a guided practice. Give it a try when you have a spare 10 minutes. Take a few moments to prepare, find a space where you won’t be disturbed for about 7 minutes. Make yourself comfy, maybe pour yourself a glass of water or a cup of tea and press play.
If you try the practice, I’d love to hear what came up for you.
Did you find a bit more space?
What did that space create for you?
Were there feelings of calm, ease, comfort?
